Daily Reflection

What are some of your possible project ideas?
I really would like to do a project on photography.

How do you feel about getting started on this next project?
I'm excited to get started on a project that is our choice.

Did you achieve your goals today? why or why not?
Yes, I completed most of them today. I still need to do the project planning form.

Daily Goals 3/7/11

My daily goals are to:

Pick out a project topic.

Decide an essential questions.

Fill out project planning form.

Final Reflection

How was the OHpedia project important to you?

The OHpedia project was important to me because I know I learned a lot. The process of it all was sometimes difficult, but the project taught me a lot.

How did your expectations of what you could do as a learner change throughout this project?

I think they started to change when I came across the communication issues with Connor. Throughout the whole project, I felt like it was very difficult to carry on. Now that I am done, I look back and realize it wasn't all that bad. My expectations of myself are a lot higher after completing this project.

In what ways did you become more persistent or tolerant throughout the process?
I learned how to deal with obstacles that might come my way. Through this process I think I became more patient knowing trusting that I WIILL get the project done sooner or later.

What satisfied you most about this project?
I was pretty satisfied about how the whole thing turned out.

What things about this project really matched your style of learning?
I have always liked having a partner in projects. Even though it was over the internet, I think it worked out well.

What will you always remember about this project?
I will always remember the process.

Cheaha Reflection

We did three different types of government today. Dudeocrecy, democracy, and dictatorship. If dudeocrecy  was chosen for a whole year, all the men would be in charge! I think the pros would be less people ruling, but the con would be that the men would probably be very unfair to the women. When we used dictatorship today while hiking, we got a better feel of how it really works. Joanna was our dictator and we had to go anyway she ordered. The pros is that only one person can rule, but the con is that on one can ever have any input. Last but no least is democracy. Everyone has equal say in what they want. Pro is that a lot of people can speak about what they believe and want, but the con is that there would always be to much controversy. Our school had a long ride in our bus, but it was completely worth it. When we got settled in we took a tour around our cabin, and then set out on our hike. That is where we experienced all the different governments:) Its super gorgeous out here. Its time to take a shower and eat some food.

Bye!

Today Connor and I got the online lesson planning form done, which is good:) Now, we have moved on to thinking how we are going to do the online lesson. Im pretty sure we are on pace or above pace, I'm not really sure on that part. Our next steps are to complete how we are going to do the lesson.

Daily Goals.

My daily goal for today is to complete the online lesson plan form with Connor. Hopefully, if I finish today, I will talk to Mrs. Amy or Mr. Randy to check our plan.

Daily Goal Reflection

Today I got an email back from one of our experts. He, unfortunately wasnt to much of help. He had told me that he did not know a lot on World War One. I think its fine since we have five more that we are waiting on right now. I also got an email back from our history teacher Mr. Joe. He made a google doc and shared it with Connor and I. The document is mainly his comments and feedback on our wiki page which will become very very helpful. I didnt feel the need to contact Randy and Amy today because everything was handled fine:) Connor and I didnt really get much done with the planning form today, but I plan to work on it Wednesday.

Daily Goals.

So far in this process I feel pretty good. Connor and I have finished our benchmarks and posted them on our wiki page. We have even sent our page to our experts. We are on pace which feels pretty nice:) I think collaborating with Connor is going alright. Even though he is far away, Skype really helps.

Today, I need to talk to Connor about one of the experts that emailed me back already. We also need to discuss our lesson that we are going to make.

Daily Goal Reflection

Did I achieve my goals today?

YES, I DID! :) I got all of my benchmarks done, AND Connor and I sent our wiki page to our experts.

What did you learn about yourself as a learner today?

That I can get a lot of things done in one day! Also, I learned how helpful it is to have a partner sometimes.

Daily Goal

I plan to finally complete the last two benchmarks today, and talk to Connor about organizing the wiki page. After that, we need to start sending our page to the experts we discovered.

Daily Reflection

I did not complete achieve my goal today at school, but I will go home today and finish them. I dont have to much further to go:)

I learned that when I can get a lot done when I sit and focus on what Im working on.

Daily Goal 1/26/11

What I plan to do today is finish all of my benchmarks, I have three more but I know if I focus really hard today, I can get them finished and posted.

I think the Ohpedia page could really help students around the world. Im sure we all know how it feels to research things about your history project and you just cant find a thing about it. You can spend so much time just trying to read different websites that give no information. I think the page would really give students an easy way to find information on their project, so they wont have to spend so much time on this section and move on quicker with their project.

Daily Goal Reflection

Did you achieve all your goals today?

Not really, I got very distracted.

What do I plan on Wednesday to make PBL more successful?

I need to focus more on researching the benchmarks and just work.

-I blame it on Mondays.

Daily Goals.

I plan to get a lot of my benchmarks done today if not all of them. My goal is to also successfully communicate with Connor via Skype.

1/21/11

Today I got a benchmark done which is good, and we talked over about how Connor and I are working together while he is gone. I would say that the second half of the day really slowed me down. I couldn't get focused that well, but Im still glad that I got my first benchmark completed and half way through my second.

Connor and I are still in the process of explaining and researching each benchmark. I feel like it will be a huge challenge to complete this major project when my partner is gone for two months, but it will work out. I get kinda stressed at times thinking about all the work that needs to be done because Connor and I are already a little bit behind in researching the benchmarks and we still have so much left. I believe we can easily get through it though, it will just take some focus.

Daily Goals 1/21/11

My daily goals today are to get our project planning form checked and ready to go. After it is checked off, Connor and I need to start working on the paragraph information for each benchmark. I also plan to figure out how to work successfully with Connor while he is in Telluride.

What went well today?
I got a few things done with planning form, and I basically know how to find the sites for the benchmarks.

Reflection 1

Today we got a lot accomplished. Since it was a PBL day, we worked a lot on our upcoming project. Today we mainly worked with our partners for our new project. Connor is my partner, but unfortunately he has been sick for the past two days so he has been gone. Instead, I worked with Chase and Joanna. To prepare for our Wiki we did a google doc on our rubric. We took themes and ideas from FLVS online lessons and random Wikipedia pages and recorded it on our document together. Today after doing all these things I feel kind of tired. Im happy that we got a lot done, but it made me pretty exhausted. My next steps in PBL is to finish my project planning form when I get in contact with Connor. It might take a while and Im pretty sure you need your partner to help with it. Also, we need to step it up and start working on our topic.

Metacognition

The definition of metacognition to me is being aware and understanding one's own thought process. Meta is derived from the greek, meaning 'self'.

OHpedia Rubric Creation.

We opened a google doc to take in ideas for our wiki page. We took ideas from FLVS and random pages from Wikipedia. Then we each opened a blog entry and listed all of the strong points that would make our wiki page more appealing. Then we all gathered together and shared each others themes for our Wiki page. More common points were colors, and pictures for the page.

Civil War Project

Mira, Leah and I worked on a Civil War project all about How Abraham Lincoln's view on slavery and how it affected the Civil War. This project took a few weeks to do but it was well worth it. There was a lot to the process of the of project but the main ones that I do remember are deciding the type of project we are going to do, working on the actual project and deciding what how to present it.

When our group decided to do our topic, we soon debated about what kind of project to complete. We had a ton of choices but we agreed to do a Prezi. A Prezi is a website for projects, planning, or really anything. You can do it for free, and its super cool. We planned out our Prezi on a large paper, and decided what it is going to look like.

When we got a good idea of what it would like, we started researching and found out a lot of information. We began to work on our Prezi with the information we were discovering. Through the days, we decided to spit the tasks. We each got assigned to a part of the project to research. The next few days we focused on the information we had to learn and put it onto a google doc. When time was running out for the project to be complete we took the document and put all of the new founded information onto our Prezi. The project was almost finished, but we still needed to complete Lincoln's view on slavery. We all worked together super hard and found out as much as we can for Lincoln's part.

Finally we got the prezi done, but that wasnt the end. Next was the decision of how we are going to present our project to everyone. We didnt want to do the usual boring standing in front of the audience and presenting thing, so we decided to do a Jing. Jing is a website that lets you take a screen shot of anything, and add a audio to it. All three of us had never used Jing before so we knew it was going to be interesting. We all squeezed in this tight closet/room and recorded our voices over the Prezi. We mainly read off the Prezi, but also added a few extras with pictures and things. Even though it was fun and cool to record all of our voices, we soon realized how long our project was. With the Jing in the Prezi, the project was a full 20 minutes! We COULD NOT present a project that lasted 20 minutes to the students and parents. We were pretty much all out of ideas until Mr. Randy suggested we should film a short commerical advertising our actual Prezi. We followed through with that idea and filmed a quick and cheesey commerical about the project we had done. We presented it to the audience and everybody seemed to enjoy it:)

This project really challenged all of us to work hard, but it was fun too. We started out by choosing the Prezi website to do our project. Its a cool website and we had a lot of fun with it. After we chose the Prezi, we began researching our topic and putting it into our prezi. Then thinking that it would be creative, we chose Jing to record our voices over our Prezi to present to people. Then later realizing that it was way to long of a project to present, so we decided to create a short commerical to show people that the actual project is out there. This process was definatly long and difficult, but we were all satisfied in the end:)
